Polygon
This command will create a new Polygon. It requires you to have an editable layer selected. The current layer is the one shown in yellow on the Key. You can then click on the map to create a node of the new polygon. When you do this a red dot icon will be added to the map. As you continue to click, further nodes will be added and start point will be displayed as an orange icon and the last added node will be presented with black pushpin icon.
You can move last added node by hovering over its icon first and dragging and dropping the node when the moving arrows will appear.
When you have drawn the polygon with the required shape you can finish drawing in three ways:
- click the start point
or - click the 'Finish' button in the context menu to complete it
- double click with left mouse button during putting the last node
Note that the record is not saved until you have filled in the new record’s properties and clicked Save on the properties tab. This means that you can enter more than one geometry for an associated set of properties (for example you could draw a farm house and a barn to represent one farm record).
Note that to enter more than one polygon for a record the layer must have been created with the multi-polygon option. The parameters for the Polygon command are: X, Y, Angle and Length and each can be locked as required in the normal way. If you click on the first point that you added a menu will be shown. You can then click Finish to complete the polygon. Note also that this menu can also be used to trim the line to that point so that if you make a mistake you can go back and fix it.
