Slice
This tool enables Slicing, which is a process of cutting a polygon with another one. This is commonly used for cutting holes in a polygon.
How to use the Slice tool
To explain how to use this tool we will be using prepared records:
- Rectangle (polygon)
- Square (polygon)
- Straight Line (line)
- Trapezium (polygon)
- Point (point)
In this example we will use Slice tool to cut a hole in Trapezium (number 4). Firstly, We need to select the Trapezium. To do that we’ll use the Mark & Move tool.
Please pick the Mark & Move tool and click on the desired record.
Inspection mark will appear in that spot and all information about the record will be displayed in the Inspector panel. Now we are ready to start the editing process. Please click the Edit record button.
Clicking the Edit record button will change the selected record colour. It means that the record is currently in the Edit mode.
You can also select a record that you want to edit by using the Inspect tool. On the Inspected record list you can choose from which layer you want to edit a record in selected location. Then you can click Edit button to enter the Edit mode.
Cutting out holes with Slice tool
The Slice tool allows you to cut out any shapes in existing geometry. To do so, please:
Pick the Mark & Move tool and click on the desired record.
Inspection mark will appear in that spot and all information about the record will be displayed in the Inspector panel. Now we are ready to start the editing process. Please click the Edit record button.
Clicking the Edit record button will change the selected record colour. It means that the record is currently in the Edit mode.
Our next step is to draw a new geometry. We will use this geometry to cut a hole in the trapezium. Please pick a tool and draw a geometry.
In our example we will use a Disc tool. This is how the effect looks:
Now we can click on the Slice tool. Both elements will change their colour. This is how it looks in our example:
Now please pick the Mark & Move tool and click on the drawn geometry. We need to delete it to cut a hole in the trapezium. To do so, please click on the Delete button.
The inner geometry will disappear. Please click Save button to keep the new polygon or Cancel to dismiss all changes.
This is how final result of using Slice tool will look:
