Delete

This tool will allow the whole geometry to be deleted. If the whole entity is selected (in case of multi-geometry features that means all geometries making a record) for deletion a warning message is displayed.

Important:

Deleting geometry is not the same as deleting a record. Deleting the whole entity means that the business attributes (the record) will become ungeocoded. To delete the whole record you have to use Delete command from Inspector pane. Please find the Deleting records – additional information section for more details.

How to use the Delete tool

To explain how to use this tool we will be using prepared records:

  1. Rectangle (polygon)
  2. Square (polygon)
  3. Straight Line (line)
  4. Trapezium (polygon)
  5. Point (point)

In this example we will use Delete tool to delete the number 2 square. Firstly, we need to select the square. To do that we’ll use the Mark & Move tool.

Please pick the Mark & Move tool and click on the desired record.

Inspection mark will appear in that spot and all information about the record will be displayed in the Inspector panel. Now we are ready to start the editing process. Please click the Edit record button.

Important:

Inspector pane will only display records from layers that belong to specified inspection set. For example if you choose to only inspect Selected layers you will have to set the layer as Selectable to display records from it.

Clicking the Edit record button will change the selected record colour. It means that the record is currently in the Edit mode.

You can also select a record that you want to edit by using the Inspect tool. On the Inspected record list you can choose from which layer you want to edit a record in selected location. Then you can click Edit button to enter the Edit mode.

Records which are in Edit mode can be modified by all tools from the Modify Selected Geometries group. Because we want to delete a record we will pick the Delete tool.

Please click the Delete tool and confirm the operation by clicking the Save button on the Inspect Record panel.

The square will disappear:

Deleting records – additional information

Using Delete tool from the Edit tab will force the edited record to disappear but it won’t delete it completely.

Records deleted by this tool will become ungecoded . To check the list of ungeocoded records please select a layer:

and use the Find in Layer tool from the Map tab.

In the Find in Layer tool properties window please select Find only ungeocoded records option and click the Find button.

You will see a list of all ungeocoded records from selected layer. You can now choose to inspect one or all records by clicking the button below.

Important:

This is the only method to inspect ungeocoded records.

To completely delete a record (including all entries in the database) you have to inspect the record and use Delete button from the Inspection Pane.

When you click it a confirmation window will appear:

Please click OK to permanently delete inspected record or Cancel to stop the operation.
