Sometimes there is a need to cut out a hole in an existing geometry. To do this, follow the instructions below.

  • Please use the Mark & Move tool to select the geometry and start the editing process.

  • By using Reshape tool draw a polygon which should be cut out. In this example we will cut a triangle inside the rectangle.

  • Make sure that the polygon you have just drawn is a closed geometry. There are two ways of creating closed geometries.
  • You can do it manually by placing last node on the first one (zoom in the geometry to make it easier to do). Then right-click on the map and select Finish or just click the last node of your polygon – in that case FINISH tooltip should be shown.

  • The suggested way of closing Reshape line to form a polygon is by using context menu to do it. When you want to close your geometry, simply right-click anywhere on the map and choose Finish & Close.

Finishing the Reshape operation will change the colour of edited geometry.

  • Now we are able to select the inner triangle. To do so, please use the Mark & Move tool. The geometry will change its colour again.

  • Now please use the Delete tool to cut the hole in the original rectangle.

  • If you accept all changes please confirm them by clicking the Save button on the Edit Record panel.

This is how the final geometry looks:
