Set Print Areas tool allows to configure map views in print for both (Main and Inset) map views.
Executing Set print areas tool will force Earthlight to display slightly different Map view. In this mode you can configure both map views (Main and Inset).
The modified map view contains 7 elements:
- This field indicates the Main map view.
- The smaller field indicates the Inset view.
- Zooms the map view to Main map field
- Sets Main map and Inset fields to the current map view.
- Generates a print . It will include Main map and Inset fields view in the print.
- Earthlight map view returns to a standard mode. All settings are being saved and can be used in prints.
To configure both print areas we have to create a layout with two Map elements. Please go to Page Layout tab and create new or open an existing layout.
Now please pick the Map tool and draw 2 map elements.
This is how a print layout with 2 map elements can look.
You can now add more elements to the layout or save it by pressing the Save button. In this example, we’ll add two scale bar elements. One for each of the map views.
This is how both of the scale bars properties windows looks:
Now please go to the Map tab and click the Print button.
A Print Settings window will appear. Please select the page layout from the list and click Set print areas button.
Now we will set the Main and Inset map views.
You can change the views anytime by dragging the fields to a different area. To do that, please hold the left mouse button above the yellow sections and drag the field to a new area.
You can also change the fields size by setting new Scale. To do so, please click the grey field and select a new scale from the drop down list. You can also enter a custom value.
If the views and scales are being set we can now use one of two buttons to finish the operation: Quick print or Close
- Quick print
This tool generates print . It will use previously chosen page layout and include Main map and Inset fields view in the print. - Close
This button ends print areas mode. All settings are being saved and can be used in prints.
In case of using the Close button you can use Print tool anytime again to generate a print or to set new Main map and Inset views.
This is how the final version of the print looks:
As you can see, both of the map views are showing the area marked by Main and Inset fields and the scale bars below them are showing the different scales – the left is for Main map, the right is for Inset.
