Shift

If the whole entity just ought to be moved then click on the entity first and then click where it needs to end up.

How to use the Shift tool

To explain how to use this tool we will be using prepared records:

1. Rectangle (polygon)
2. Square (polygon)
3. Straight Line (line)
4. Trapezium (polygon)
5. Point (point)

In this example we will use Shift tool to move the number 1 rectangle below the number 3 line. Firstly, we need to select the rectangle. To do that we’ll use the Mark & Move tool.

Please pick the Mark & Move tool and click on the desired record.

Inspection mark will appear in that spot and all information about the record will be displayed in the Inspector panel. Now we are ready to start the editing process. Please click the Edit record button.

Clicking the Edit record button will change the selected record colour. It means that the record is currently in the Edit mode.

You can also select a record that you want to edit by using the Inspect tool. On the Inspected record list you can choose from which layer you want to edit a record in selected location. Then you can click Edit button to enter the Edit mode.

Records which are in Edit mode can be modified by all tools from the Modify Selected Geometries group. Because we want to move the record we will pick the Shift tool.

Shift tool will move the record from one location to another. Now we have to decide what is the location of the reference point for the shift operation.

In this guide we will move the rectangle so its top-left corner will be placed on the blue line. To do so, we click on the top-left corner of the selected record and move the cursor to the blue line.

Now we have to click again to select the new location. A yellow geometry will appear. This is the preview of the new location for the geometry.

Please click Save button to keep the new polygon or Cancel to dismiss all changes.

Using the context menu for Shift operations.

Earthlight context menu contains various tools which can be used together with the Shift tool.

Firstly, we have to set the reference point for the shift operation. To do so, we pick the Shift tool and click in the reference point location. Now we can use the right mouse button to open the context menu.

1. X,Y

This tool allows you to enter precise X and Y coordinates for the Shift operation. Based on the reference point the geometry will be moved to given coordinates. A yellow element will appear. This is the preview of the new location for the geometry. Please click Save button to keep the new polygon or Cancel to dismiss all changes.

2. Line

The Line tool allows you to set the exact distance of the Shift operation. Please provide the distance and accept it by pressing the Enter key. The lock icon next to the distance means that it cannot be changed.

We can now pick the new location around the reference point. The distance will not change and we can only control the direction of theShift operation. Clicking on the map will set the new location and yellow preview of the geometry will be displayed. Please click Savebutton to keep the new polygon or Cancel to dismiss all changes. You can use the Line tool together with the Heading tool. For example you can use the Line tool to set the exact distance and then Heading tool to set the exact angle for the Shift operation.

3. Heading

This tool allows you to set the exact direction of the Shift operation. Please enter the angle from -180 to 180 and confirm it by pressing Enter key. Confirming the angle will block the possibility to change the Shift direction. You will only have opportunity to set the Shift distance.Clicking on the map will set the new location and yellow preview of the geometry will be displayed. Please click Save button to keep the new polygon or Cancel to dismiss all changes. You can use the Heading tool together with the Line tool. For example you can use Heading tool to set the exact angle and the Line tool to set the exact distance for the Shift operation.
