Clip Layer

The Clip Layer tool allows you to extract features from one dataset that fall within the boundaries of a polygon in another dataset.

The result will be a new dataset with only clipped records.

This can be useful for creating subsets of larger datasets that are specific to certain geographic areas or features.

  1. Input Layer - This is the layer that contains the data you want to clip base on the polygons from overlay layer. The input layer can be any type of vector data, such as point, line, or polygon features.

  2. Overlay Layer - This is the layer that contains the geometries you want to use as the basis for the clip operation. The overlay layer should polygon layer.

It is possible to limit the clip operation to selected features within the input and overlay layers. This can be useful if you only want to work with a subset of the data within each layer.

3. Output Clipped Layer - This is the resulting layer (and its table) that is created after the clip operation is performed. The output layer contains only the features from input layer that fall within the boundaries of the overlay layer.
