The AddTools pane allows you to add various types of annotations or measurements to the map. These are temporary map features which can't be preserved between session and will vanish after you reload the app. When using the ruler tool, you can change the units displaying the length or area of the measurement geometry by changing the values in the units box in the Measurement tools section.
