This tab allows you to set expressions to connect with external files (e.g. PDFs, Images and imagestext files).
In the expression field you have to provide a complete path to the actual file. Depending on how you have it entered in the table it might be an expression similar to the one above (it implies, that the column stores only file names with extensions of the pdfs(e.g. [COLUMN_NAME].txt ). On the other hand you may have a complete path to the file in which case you will simply enter the name of the columnprovide a link in Expression field. As always names of the columns are surrounded with square brackets.
Hyperlinking external resources i.e. images, PDF documents to database records can be a tricky task. In order to utilize the hyperlinks you have to:
- Configure the hyperlink expression
- Save the map and reload it to make Earthlight client aware of the changes
If both, the expression Expression and DataPump Hyperlinking service, are configured correctly, after executing Inspect on the map you will be able to see a little paper clip symbol on the Inspection panel with the name of the file next to it.
At first it will be pale grey to inform you that there is an external file linked to this record. Only once you hover the mouse cursor above the paper clip Earthlight will try to fetch the file to be able to show it to you. Once the file is fetched the link will black and you will be able to click on it to display the resource.
If an attempt to fetch the file failed, the paper clip and the file name will get a reddish background.
If you subsequently click on it you will be presented with Incident report stating the reason it failed.

Clicking on the page icon will expand a dropdown list of existing hyperlinks.
If a hyperlink has no Display expression, then it will be displayed as record value (if a column name was provided) next to Name of the hyperlink in brackets.
